Dr Shijun
Ma (1915--1991), born in Shangdong in 1915, graduated
from Department of Agronomy, Peking University
in 1937, and got his Ph.D degree in Minnesota
State University in 1951. Dr Ma not only made
great contribution in ecology and integrated management
of migratory locust, the most harmful pest in
China for centuries, but also was the father of
ecological engineering and social-economic- natural
complex ecosystem theory, and the pioneer in the
world to introduce ecology into agriculture, industry
and sustainable development. He was one of the
founders of modern ecology in China. Dr Ma was
the member of Committee of Environmental and Development
of Untied Nations, and the contributor of ¡°Our
Common Future¡±. |
